what software for easy drawing eye-candy diagrams (Tree diagrams, ER, block diagrams from templates) do you usually use? I tried smartDraw (www smartdraw.com) but for some reason it is very unstable and almost unusable on my system, so decided to ask for your advice again on comparable alternatives

OmniGraffle for OS X is very, very nice. It came free with my Macs. On Windows/Solaris/HPUX there is VisualThought - which is abandonware, but they had the decency to produce a free license code for it when it was abandoned: http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/graphics/diagramming/confluent/ Bernard
