I'm using a shared folder on a Windows 2003 server.

I've had files affected in this way when on Windows systems: Try putting
the .rev file in the Anti-Virus exclusion list and see if that sorts it out.

I'm not sure if this is relevant to your problem, but have a look at
the customProperties in revPreferences. I've been having similar
problems occasionally and having to clear out corrupted paths from the
cRecentPaths property. (BZ #1752)
