Has anyone seen a similar issue around running multiple jobs in parallel on
VMware 5.5?
I am trying to upload Templates, provision servers, attach volumes, but it
seems like only 1x job is being executed in vCenter?

There's nothing stopping you from using RBD with Ubuntu alongside your existing
CentOS hypervisors. Obviously you won't be able to live migrate and so on
between them, but otherwise there's no reason it shouldn't work, it's still KVM
at the end of the day.
