I tested it by bumping it up to MAVEN_OPTS="-Xmx256m" export MAVEN_OPTS I've got 4Gigs of RAM and will go through some testing to find the best RAM performance metric. I noticed via top that once physical ram allocated to java reached 256MB the projects started to build. 369MB Physical 525MB V
