I downloaded LibreOffice 3, selected text document to write a letter. I get a
flashing cursor but cannot view what I have typed.
I am able to import documents from other programs and work with them from
LibreOffice 3.
Any help would be appreciated.

download the file since PortableApps released version 10. It doesn't
matter which site a attempt to download from I end up with an incomplete

As for LO having one, well there is a lot of server side work and
expense to produce a "cloud based" application.
