Yes, you're right on that. I will test only the VirtualHost configuration.
Now my Web Application fails on the first request. It doesn't get to the
server.

No, my problem analysis goes like this:
1) Set up proxy without virtual host - it works.
2) Set up proxy with virtual host - it doesn't work
I assume the problem is number 2
