No, my problem analysis goes like this: 1) Set up proxy without virtual host -> it works. 2) Set up proxy with virtual host -> it doesn't work

My wild guess as to the real probelm; possibly the backend server is sending back a response that causes the client to make another request that doesn't contain a Host header...
