Check/post your /var/log/kannel/smsc.log. this is your modem log. It
should have the info about modem connection.

Have you looked into the gateway's user guide? I don't think it supports
SMS at all.

Either Asterisk or Kannel can use a GSM gateway device at the time.
It is not possible to use them both at the same time, unless your gateway
device is capable of receiving two (usb) serial connections at a time.

I suggest you use a second GSM device to send the sms messages.
Or otherwise use one of the many sms service providers to send the sms,
instead of a gsm modem.
