download the newest version will it erase all of my saved files? And can

do you believe that libreoffice is more stable than openoffice?
i heard that libreoffice is less stable and has more bugs because of
numourus changes and new features added in every new version.
i think that libreoffice is more compatible with microsoft office product.

But probably you need to delete your user profile in
C:\user\{wil}\appdata\roaming\openoffice\4\user
Next time you start OpenOffice it will create a new clean profile

which operating system do you use?
if you use windows vista and later,
you can find property of your file and in the security tab, check
previous version to returns previous version of your file.
i am not familiar with other operating systems, but i believe that
they should have a solution like

just find openoffice, tools, options, openoffice writer, then print.
then, you can specify which parts of file you want to print with
checking or unchecking the available check boxes and then save your
settings.
