I'm using OOo Writer 2.3 and have a problem selecting text.
Had it in previous version as well
I cannot drag to select a block of text.
I can click in one spot and then
shift-click in another and it works fine.
Drag selecting works fine in other non-OOo applications like WordPad.

Thanks Brian, although I found it confusing that the "insert" was
grayed out if I attempted to format before inserting. The other
difficulty was in getting the two columns the same width. It
seemed as though it kept remembering the width of the prior
section. Eventually I got it though.
