Many thanks for kind and helpful replies, all of which I'll follow up.
Needless to say, Somebody's Law was also operating, so that when I came
back from lunch the document had opened.
I suppose it's all part of the excitement of using open-source software;

Perhaps I should add that the jar is well downloaded because I used that same
jar for writing a small application which reads information from my data
base and it works fine

I have downloaded version 3.1 twice but it will not install. Just as the
installation wizard gets going I get a warning to close all 3.1 applications
and applications on networked computers. When I OK this the installation stops.
Any idea what the problem may be?

I was assigned to prepare a slide show in your program, but have 24 hrs to
prepare it. Is there a way to enter or use your program to prepare the slide
show without downloading it (take more than 24 hrs to be ready to use).
Thanks

Hi David;
It sounds like you still have the Quickstarter open. I am a leap
that you are on a windows system. If so then the Quickstarted will be
in your system tray (the area at the botttom left of your screen where
the clock is).

Hello Jose,
Well, I don't think you mentioned which version of OO.o - but
if you are using Version 3.1 or better you could look at the MySQL
Connector 1.0 extension, found here:

This uses the native MySQL C++ connector code,

James, the boxes marked as spacing allow you to adjust the amount of
space between the columns.
Not sure about why it's not listed under 'F11'.
