Create numbering styles
para-figure-numbering
para-roman-numbering
para-letter-numbering
Then make the numbering style an attrbiute of the paragraph style.

There is an icon on the tool bar (with the hint Numbering On/Off) which can be
used to switch numbering on again after you have delet
