Using Calc on Windows Vista.
It keeps locking, shutting down and then having to recover in the middle of
using the file (about 2.4Mb)
It's got to where I can't work on the file.
What's up and what can I do?

Save it in Excel format. Another possibility is to have them install
the Sun ODF plugin, which adds ODF support to Microsoft Office.

I am using OOo on a dell xps 210 I am using linux suse 10.3 as an OS
The suite works very well, when I open the calc the display is set to
very small. The cells are very small and tightly packed into the sheet.

under linux may make all of the difference. With those two caveats, might I
suggest you on your menu bar the following path:
view zoom
you can select a pre-defined setting or you can determine your own
magnification.
Copy to OP.
VIEW = ZOOM
Choose something like 200% for starters.

That is painful problem for me too, even when I try to open Excel files
with values similar somehow to dates. If the file is small I do it in
terrible (but the only I know) way. I copy (or open) it before to writer
and then from writer to calc. Then calc recognize content of cells as
