If you are on Linux, I don't think there are much more options available for
opening MS Office documents, but since it's free, just install it and try.
If you are on Windows, and you only need to view the files, not edit them,
then you might want to try Excel Viewer, Word Viewer and Powerpoint

Absolutely. OpenOffice supports MS Office Suite, while the opposite is not
true.
