I had a similar problem seen with a earlier version 5.0.6 of ownCloud.
During the Update to 5.0.7 I deleted the - in my case - MySQL-DB and
started with a new DB.
After that, I haven't seen "automatically duplicated contacts".

i tried the SoGo connector 24.02 with Thunderbird 24.2.0 under Ubuntu
13.10. I tried to sync my addressbook with owncloud 5.0.13 and got a lot
of duplicate entries. It looks like some of the entries were duplicated
