Hi Gurus,
Is there any way to define a rule in the netbackup says that do not

Which are older than 2 months.

Not out of the box.
I suppose you could use "find" to find all files older than two months and
write their names to the exclude list for that policy.

We also use Aptare. Have been
for two years. Excellent for historical reports and daily status.
The only time we use NBConsole is to
drill down for certain types of errors,
such as to identify a media problem.

Hi,
Q: what is the best way to share devices such as tape library among
different zones?
I have a situation that I need run vertas netbackup in two separate
zones, while sharing the same tape library due to budget constraints.
in order to share it, I'm thinking about shuttle the devices

See http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/275107.htm
"A new Solaris 10 feature, "Containers" or "Zones" allows the
configuration of global and non-global zones. NetBackup Server is
supported only in a global zone."
I'd be interested if you can pull it off anyway though. =)

Greetings -
I'm trying to setup SSO for an LTO2 library shared between a Solaris 9
Master and a RHEL3 Linux Media server. Can someone give me examples of
the vm.conf files on each server?
Right now, I'm using an evaluation license and I can see drives
on both Master and Media servers and the rob
I'm running 5.1 MP4 on Windows 2000 and I got an error when trying to
load tape IN3099 today. It said that the media was already in the
library. I examined the media list and found that indeed the Logical
Volume Manager thought IN3099 was in slot 327. The problem? My library
only has 326 slots
It's not vm.conf, it's tpconfig.
Be sure which drives are the shared ones, ie /dev/rmt/x on server1 is
/dev/rmtY on server2. Then carefully setup the drives as shared drives via
tpconfig.
vm.conf is plain.
Really, the manual is your friend on an SSO setup.

That’s what OpenView Operations
(OVO) does. You run an agent on the NetBackup system to monitor all
the log files and the /var/adm/messages. You can monitor processes and
lots of other things. You can also use the custom scripts you already
have and just use opcmsg to sen
Can any of these tools monitor for restore tape mounts, *AND*
display a list of any additional tapes (with it's Volume
Group if it's not in the library) required ?

Hi Mark --
Here are my tpconfigs on both the Master and Media servers:
Master server: /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/tpconfig -d

Checkout Aptare www.aptare.com - They provide the exact tape ID's and
the library and slot numbers they are in if they are in the library.
They have an interface for doing restores. You can even display file
level detail on the tapes.

Did you create new storage units for your media server? Reboot? Assign
your policy to the new storage unit?
Make sure that your both servers have the other in their bp.conf file. Best
guarantee is to have each labeled as a "SERVER" rather than a "MEDIASERVER".
Master server is listed first, o
Kathryn,
In a SSO environment your Drive Names must be unique.
In my environment for example, from the Master, run "vmoprcmd". These are the names I use
to keep things straight.

I need to create a separate storage unit for the media server
even if the robotic is controlled by the master? I haven't done
this yet.

Did I miss something here? Did you intend to show me the
results of your vmoprcmd or a tpconfig -d?

You do need a storage unit for every media server that will be backing
up data. The policy should point to the storage unit of the media
server you want to back up to. The tpconfig entry on the media server
will point to the master as having the library control however - See the
tpconfig

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I'm not there yet.
Both the master and media servers are in each other's bp.conf
file.
I have a single robot with 4 drives in it. The drives are all
visible on both of the servers. I've renamed the drives accessed
from the media server differently
