I've already added the license, and it appears in license info, I just don't
know how to tell the media server to pick up that license.

Hi Chris. Which version of NetBackup are you using? NetBackup 6.5.x no
longer needs the pre and post processing scripts or VMware Integration
Module. If you are using NetBackup 6.0 or earlier I have an
implementation doc that might be of help to you. Let me know and I will
forward it to you.

You can use 'vmoprcmd -activate_host -h media_server_name' to
set media server active for tapes. It takes around a minute after
issuing this command to actually see the drives available.

I've seen the below issue mentioned by Scott as well. Issuing that command
will resolve the problem. I'm not sure why this happens, but all I got out
of support was that the server's state was never updated properly.

The actual command name is bpminlicense
bpminlicense -verbose will list all current licenses with their expiration
dates, features enabled and other stuff.
bpminlicense -add_keys key1 key2 - will add new keys
bpminlicense -delete_keys key1 - will delete old keys
Hope this helps.

On Thu,
I'm holding at 6.5.1a and can do so because my environment is different, but I
had similar issues. Even after continuous run's of vmdareq the problem
persisted. When checking Devices/Media Servers I noticed the Status of "Active
for Disk" only, not "Active for Tape and Disk".
Our work around
\admincmd doesn't contain any file or folder liek get_license... actually
searched entire machine for *get_*.* but not matches.
thanks,
dj

I am looking into AdvancedDisk storage units and storage lifecycle policies and
trying to decide if we want to use them or just stick with our basic disk. Who
out there is using them and how are they working for you?

We had the same problem with our environment. AIX Master, AIX Media server and
Windows Media server. All running NBU 6.5.2A. We have installed about 5
binaries and this problem seems to have been resolved. I would contact Veritas
support and get the latest binaries for 6.5.2A.
As a work around
I've had a 90 day trial license installed for a new media server which has
expired, I got another trial license but can't figure out how to apply it to
the existing test media server, anyone?

I had to reboot both the master and the media server, once up I bounced
netbackup on the master again. And then it worked.
They think the issue for me was because I had my disk drives and my tape

Funny you should mention the excludes approach. That is exactly what we
are planning to do.
Too bad you can't do from the GUI like you can on Windows clients.

Hi,
I am having trouble getting the file level backups working for an ESX server.
It's failing with the bpstart_notify failure error (73). However, the image
level backups work fine. This was all setup before i came here and i don't
really have much experience with backing up VMware. As far a
Hi,
Hoping someone can help me. We've got a new system recently put in, its
been fine until recently - had to reboot the media servers and have had
a problem since then. We've got an AIX master ( no tapes) a W2K3 Media
( also a VCB server) and an AIX media server , all with NBU 6.5.2a
installed.
