Check on the netapp side, what does it report. Does it show the tape drive as

Try the storage show tape command
And the sysconfig -t command
Try the ndmpd status and session kill commands

Judy,
This would be on a bare metal box at SunGard. Taking out stuff there and DR'ing
a customers environment. So, this would be a clean install of Netbackup on a
freshly built Solaris 10 box. We're just trying to figure out how we can keep
from backing up and restoring ~250GB worth of Netback
Our use for storage unit groups is for failover in the possiblity that a
media server goes down. The only backups we have that go direct to a
standard storage unit is the few servers reachable through our
firewalls. The permissions are only setup for a single destination for
backups.

There are several things which can be viewed with bpgetconfig -M {client name}
and you might try nbgp and nbdir?

Oracle export (or Data Pump in newer versions of Oracle) may give you
the protection you need.
* Have your DBA evaluate the export(s) done and test restores.
Tests may include loss of

I work with Ed so I have to be careful here or he'll start throwing sharp
objects over the wall at me- but I don't agree straight-up with everything he's
said.
The Puredisk pricing model does make sense in some environments: our initial
purchase of 2 TB covered 15 offices- that's pretty good m
Hi, I was wondering if anyone is using Backup Exec to perform VCB backups and
do they work successfully?
Also , what functionality would i be missing if i choose backup exec over
netbackup for VCB backups for Win2003 VMs? I know that backup exec will not

We have a T2000 master server and a T2000 media server.
We also have a V240 as a media server, because our LTO1's and the L700 require
HVD SCSI...and we weren't able to get a working controller for the T2000's.
T2000's have fibre attached LTO3's and SAN (6140) storage. (D2D2T)
LTO3's are the da

The built-in pieces in NetBackup do a pretty poor job of long-term

Storage unit group is, typically, used for load-balancing jobs across mutliple
STUs - possibly residing/attached to different Media servers.
Inline-tape-copy creates multiple copies at 'backup time' by writing each copy
to a different media from STU(s) attached to same Media server. Essentially

Tape drive is attached to NetApp Filer... And is controlled from the
Master...
Tape drive shows in vmoprcmd that it has a tape loaded... And bpdbjobs
shows a job associated
with that tape drive...
Yet nothing is running and has been hung out there for a bit
Tell your management that you need some advanced reporting option

FYI:
On HP-UX you might want to use fcmsutil to force a reset of fibre card
as ioscan doesn't do one (in fact it will hang if the fibre card is hung
for some reason).
