Files are not growing during backup.
If you take this number: 2775784693 and divide it by 1024, you will get the
exact number Netbackup posted in bplist output. The problem is coverting that
number BACK to the original byte count.

6 channels allocated for the recovery (rman).
If it's only using 3 streams actively now...and it gets past one stream waiting
on another, will it every get to using 6 streams? How does RMAN deal with that?

Multiplexing is set to "1"...We've had RMAN recoveries to fail on
multiplexed RMAN backups/recoveries, so we've changed all our policies on every
master server (over 105 of them) to not use multiplexed rman backups.

Well...my initial analysis for the DBA was that RMAN was allocating 6 channels
but 3 active streams were spinning tapes and the 3 waiting streams were waiting
on tapes that were currently being restored from. This didn't make the DBA
happy and wanted all 6 streams to be streaming data.

RMAN backup was 35TB across 40 tapes.
Backup is claimed to have used 6 streams.
All masters & clients/media servers and oracle instances share the same RMAN
catalog.
This is a disaster recovery of a 35 TB database from one master backup
solution/client to another.

The Oracle DBA allocated 6 channels for the backup and also 6 channels for the
recovery.
I see 6 streams in the GUI...but 3 are always waiting on tapes that he active 3
streams are using.

Tapes were removed and shipped to another location for RMAN recovery.
Backup was done via allocating 6 channels.

Node A - Master/Media server with fiber attached LTO-5 library.
Node B - Media server/client with tape drives in the Node-A library zoned so
Node B can see the drives.
Setup a regular flat file type backup for Node B and tell the policy to use

Nopenot saying it's a bad thing. Just stating that there are "tools" to get
the info we need and each tool uses those same tools to get the same info and
then present it to us in different user front-ends.
Various people like different tools. That's why there is more than one
I also have an Aptare server/reporting tool as well. It does a fine job but
it's just not as user friendly as Profiler.
StillI restate the obviousthey all get their info the exact same
way...by running bperror and other commands to get the info and populate the
database for reporting.
I have experience with various reporting tools. These include "WysDM", Backup
Profiler by Solarwinds, and OpsCenter with Analytics.
The info you want out of OpsCenter will require you to write your own SQL code
to generate the report and format you want. Profiler does a great job and has a

we have an Archive Backup Policy in place that runs each night to backup
anything that happens to be in the LZ location...i.e. D:\Archive_Data\LZ\*

How would this be accomplished on a Winodws client? Most all our boxes are
Unix/Linux boxes, but we are getting some customers that have Windows boxes
that we backup. They want an Archive backup policy to backup an LZ and then
they want a list of what was backed up.

Looking to migrate an extisting Netbackup master/media from an HP-UX SuperDome
server to an AIX IBM770 server. Software encryption has been used and existing
LTO-3 tape library will be migrated over to the new AIX server.
What are the issues you see with this?

In general, what's the trick to backup and then recover an Exchange Message
Store?
Can it be multi-streamed or must it be single stream?
I understand about the MS-Exchange policy type and that is set.
I also understand that there are preferred ways to do an exchange backup, but

The actual problems was in fact the Windows WMI Repository. It had to be blown
away and rebuilt. Then the NBU client s/w could be installed and backups
resumed as normal.

serious performance hit on all 3 masters.
All master servers are Solaris boxes running version 10 of the O/S.
All media servers are Solaris 10 boxes.

Sungard only has one tape library available for our up and coming DR Exercise,
an IBM 3584 with 8 LTO-4 drives. SG doesn't have any more tape libraries and we
have 2 master servers to setup and do multiple restores from for two different
businesses/customers.
What's going to be my best method
I want to give a specific user account the ability to view the following:
Activity Monitor
Media to include pools
Would also like to give the ability to Inventory the library while keeping
restricted user access and ability.
