I don't have a script, but the vmoprcmd might be what you are looking for. It
is in {NetBackup install directory}/volmgr/bin. I am running Windows so I am
not sure of the capitalization.

I used the "media_deassign_notify" script. Put this in your
..\netbackup\bin directory. This is for linux but can be made to run in
Windows. Just make sure to not use the robot number of the actual
library. We had 2 VTLs at this location and robot 0 was a tape library.

year to 6 months but the 'Data Expiration' date shown on the media in
the GUI or when running bpmedialist (see below for syntax) did not
change.

At my last job we were doing the same thing and did NOT change any
system accounts used by NBU.

I have worked with the Quantum i500 and it has been a very reliable
library. In 1 year we had a total of 2 issues with it and they were
fixed the next day. Neither issue left the library unusable!!!
Management is pretty much set-it and forget-it and operations are fairly
simple.
