We don't have a spare drive in our lab to use for a hot catalog backup

EMC and the robot vendor both say to turn SCSI reserve / release off,
Veritas says to leave it on; anyone out there with any experience w

The V240 has MORE than ample PCI IO for that amount of data, but if the
T2000 is cheaper, I'd go that way.
If/when you eventually need more performance for the catalog, you can
put it on FC-SAN disk, or an external FC array.

By the way, the L180 is one of the best tapelibraries you
can get and I wouldn't trade ours for anything else the an L700e og L14
am unable to get more speed.
The library is L100 and I am using two drives for backup. By increasing
number of drives or number of channels the backup speed is not going to
be better.
The tunning I have made so far is.
NET_BUFFER_SZ as 262144
NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS=64
SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS=104
because
sometimes it is I. :-) I was thinking of maybe using a cron job to
de-activate the specific policies at 8AM and another cron job to
reactivate at 6PM. Is there a simpler way?

The drive limit of LTO2, I have benchmarked at speeds of 90-94MB/s,
sustained. Around 137-138MB/s for LTO3.

Looks like Remote NDMP is not supported on Linux. I just looked at the
compatibility matrix and all the linux NDMP patches, nowhere does it say
support was added for linux server. Someone please correct me if I'm
wrong.

Thank God never had to restore
anything.
SPS 2003 isn't supported under NBU 5.1. Support for SPS
2003 is in NBU 6.0
