A follow-up: I solved my particular problem by trashing the Versions
folder in Application Support. Given that I hadn't yet used the
program, this didn't cost me any lost bookmarks, etc. Here's the
thread that gave me the idea to try this:

I've no such Versions folder, only Versions.app and also no 'Application
Support' folder, where can i find it?
Or did i missed something?

I know these things take time, but is version 1.0.6 coming soon? As
you know, it is unusable for me right now and it should would be nice
