Jack,
These samples of rope-dubbed fly bodies are tied with a mixture of squirrel and
spikey hare’s mask (ears) dubbing.
On the real samples, the segmentation stands out a lot more because of lighting.
Does the pattern call for dubbing this spikey?
It also looks like the tail fibers of twist

Hi Bob,
welcome back from lurk-mode. No, I was kidding with the 100 flies. Don
decided to go with 18, and that's fine.

Hi Keith,
yes, we did become old. I, myself, was turned into a grandpa. 4 grandchild.
How is life in the UK in these days? Still enjoying to be in the EU?

Hi Bob, zbinawhile, great to hear from you.
Below is what I’ve posted so far with a list of who’s signed up.
As I’ve done in the past, I intend to ‘judge’ them and reward a Fantasy Fly to
the best of swap tier. (new news)
Room for 6 more swappers. Will finalize the details (pretty standard)
I met Mike when we tied at the Holland Flyfair in ‘98. We hit it off and spent
a lot of time together while there in Holland, as he was experienced in Europe

rough personality. We became good friends and met up again a
Yes, I remember him although I have not heard about him for many years. Mike
Martinek tied flies in the Carrie Stevens style. I think years ago that he even
had some extra longshank streamer hooks made by Partridge of Redditch. Sad news.

The Driftless Angler Fly Shop has stocked this fly but it opened in 2006.
I watched John Bethke demonstrate how to tie it over twenty years ago.
Feather Craft has the Pink Squirrel in their catalog with John's name on it.

Peggy, thanks for passing this along. I'm sad to hear that Mike passed. He
was a huge inspiration to me and many other tyers who tied featherwing
streamers. He self-published 2 books of streamer flies, mostly ones he
designed as well as some that his friends had created. They are tough to
find, Mik
Mike was not a VFB member but a well known tyer. He specialized in streamers
and knew all about their history. I think he may even authored a book on the
subject. He tyed at many of the shows. I watched him tie a few times,
