Hi there!
I wanted to ask the videoblogging collective what your favorite (and
perferably free?) screen capture software is. I'm talking about to
teach someone how to perform a function on a desktop. Audio is cool,
but not necessary; I can add audio afterwards.
Thoughts? Thanks!

Ok, Tim, other than having the fun Shira Lazar doing the intro video (she's
good people) why would I make videos for this?
Just curious because I've seen a fair amount of these things pop up around
the inauguration.

If you are using windows, then camstudio.org is great and free. If you
are on a mac, I love iShowU from shinywhitebox.com ($20).

but, but, but... I was recycling at our bar before people started using the
term Green! If I make a video, I may come off as too antiquated:)

I would concur with Michael about Camstudio. I use it and it's
really easy to use and learn.

I use ishowu on my Mac for my webcast Trip on a Deal
(www.triponadeal.com). It's phenomenal and allows me to capture
websites and videos in a quicktime file that is the same format as I
am editing in Final Cut. Very simple to use and very seamless.

I read that, as of 2009, Jing no longer has free screencasting - it's
only in the premium version.

Hey y'all. I am thinking about producing a talking head vlog à la
rocketboom and I am trying to figure out what kind of gear I need.
I saw http://epicfu.com/2008/12/how-to-make-a-kick-ass-web-sho.html
and tried to look online for the definitive n00b's starter kit, but
couldn't find a clear answer.

But for your specifics...
Lots of people here use a Rode videomic (approx $100) mounted on top
of their cameras, but that won't work on your IXUS - not least

The mic problem is very challenging. I had a podcasting rig made up of
a Sony (HiMD) minidisc player/recorder plus assorted plug in power
microphones.
These mics won't work plugged into my camera as they require a preamp.
I had been using another vid camera (for a week)and that took the plug
