A good idea would be to do what I did for the Centris 660av and just look
around eBay for a bit. Unfortunately most of the computers being sold are
broken or only power tested (PLEASE STOP IT'S ANNOYING), but eventually
you'll find a vintage mac that works fully and is compatible with SCSI.

It might? I've gotten my old iMac DV from 1999 online using a modern Apple
laptop, an ethernet cable, and internet sharing. However, since you're
using a laptop, 1. make sure you have airport, and 2. make sure you can use
the correct security type (WPA I'm pretty sure) for your WIFI network, and
I did it to a PowerBook G4 using "special tactics" so watch this section
from one of my tech video logs to see that. I'll preface this by saying it
took a USB drive, an old Intel MacBook, and the PowerBook:

I would recommend System 6 or so and maybe System 7, but I wouldn't
recommend anything higher than that, seeing as later System 7 versions look
more aged on a B&W screen rather than a colored screen where it actually

I quite liked the Centris 650 back in the day. It was reasonably quick for
its time and had (IIRC) 3 x Nubus slot. I used one as a server back in the
day - a job that it did very capably (File server + FileMaker Pro).

I agre with superstar64. System 6.0.7 (or 6.0.8) would be a sweet spot for
a Mac SE. Pretty stable and nice snappy performance. System 7.0.1 would
work well, but is a bit "laggy" on the SE.
