Concerning batteries, the first thing I do with a newly acquired Mac is removing the Lithium-batteries when I do not use the Mac on a regular basis. I too bought some Mac II and Macintosh Plus, SE, SE/30 with completely destroyed main boards due to leaked or exploded batteries. The other point
