You have full control whether notifications appear on the lock screen in
Settings > Notification Centre.
Just go to each app listed, e.g. Apple News, Messages, Mail etc. and turn off
"Show on lockscreen".

Mine comes on, or did, whenever I unlocked, when I'd wanting to know the time,

I just lock the screen and that stops the notifications.

I have another question.
Other than turning off speech when on a call, how can I keep notifications
from speaking in my ear or through the speaker phone while I'm on a call?
This is very annoying! I don't believe this happened on my old iPhone 5S but
