hi, followed this, but no luck pairing either my apple bluetooth
keyboard or the Microsoft Universal bluetooth keyboard.

Daniel is almost right with his directions, except for activating VoiceOver.
The button to press three times quickly is the top left button on the remote.

Oops, my apologies, the 3rd generation Apple TV was the one you had to press on
the Play button.

I think you will enjoy your new Apple TV, I know I bought the exact same one
and I love it.
As for the remote, below the gesture area, from the top left going down, you
have the Menu, Siri and Play/Pause buttons. From the top right going down, you
have the Home button and below that
