So if your smaller speakers are sonos 1 then alexa will work for you.
Play 3 I don’t believe will.

Remember it’s primary function is an amazon echo with a speaker added in,
It’s not a speaker with the echo / alexa function built in.

I like the echo better than Siri. She consistently answers my questions
correctly and doesn't send me to the web as much as Siri does.

I have an echo and mine is working great. I have never used the Apple home pod
which is Apple's answer to the smart speaker, but every review that I have read
about it says that it does not have nearly as man features as the Amazon Echo
or Google Home, also, you can play Apple music on your amaz
00 and $700 which is not insignificant and
a lot more than my four Echo devices.

I totally agree with Peter. I have a pair of HomePods, and they totally blow
the echo away. But they really are music listening devices, or podcasts, or
playing your Apple TV, like Peter said. If you’re into all that other stuff,
the trivia games etc., then the HomePod isn’t what you want.

Janet,
I thought Apple's digital assistant is Siri. I would strongly recommend you
stick with the Amazon Echo rather than investing in a Home Pod running Siri.
All of these devices and systems have issues from time to time but my opinion
is that the Amazon Echo is the best of the lot.
