On the topic of audio books on the phone, what could you recommend as an app to
play an audio book for my friends who do not wish to pay $20 or so for Voice
Dream Reader? Anything available for free (assuming you have an mp3 of the
audio book that is).

I believe Amazon audio books are the same as Audible audio books, as they own
Audible.
I love Audible, and have signed up using Amazon, for their "one credit per
month" for $15 plan (1 credit gets you one book regardless of its price).
