Hello Jonathan,
I agree with your position in this matter. I learned Braille as a teenager and
use it every day in my profession. I do not know what I would do without it,
and I am not the fastest Braille reader in the world.
I just wonder if APPle has not devoted the resources to Braille suppo

Anna, I can say that I agree with you here. Contractions are a Godsend. I do
think that they can become problematic when tought to early, though. Anyway,
I'll shut up about that, as it's not exactly relevant to iOS devices, and
straying more into the topic of Braille in general. :)

Hi,
I agree with Jonathan's post. And while computer braille is very useful for
programming and such, contracted braille is vitally important for anyone who
wants to read quickly. I have read many, many books aloud to my son, and I
can't imagine that I could read uncontracted braille quickly en

Hi David.
The poor children need to have time to learn all these things. I have not
learned printed letters at all, I have not been missing them. Having said that
all blind children and adults who cares about braille should learn computer
braille or better 8 dots braille, in fact I agree that c

Hi all
Good article JM. However, i don't see how it will get fix if there are
different versions of Braille available. Just say English Braille
itself, how many varians itself in English Braille? Even UEB itself
can be different from different country.
I do agree with David C though, i think the

Actually, we need to change all braille to computer braille. This way, we
become better able to match our sighted peers. Our spelling will dramatically
improve, and we will experience text much more the way sighted people
experience it.

I know my thoughts on this topic are in the extreme minority. I grew up
learning braille. Fortunately, my mother also insisted I learn print, and
taught me using plastic letter magnets.
My first notetaker was a Braille 'n Speak 640. I used it for taking notes in
university training courses. Bec
Jonathan, Annie and all,
I agree totally with your sentiments, but do feel that, along with suggestions
so far, there needs to be a big push for schools to keep it a priority for
children to learn thoroughlyand use braille every day.
My gut feeling is that Apple really does need to call upon t
Absolutely agreed. I have forwarded your email to

this topic also does that--but write something in your own words too.

Hi Jonathan.
As always you are nailing things down very well. I fully agree and
support your writing. If we take this a step further and step outside
the English speaking contries. Braille implementation is even poorer
than what you describe. No contractions in 8-dot braille, poor and

Hi Jonathan.
I agree with you. I have some things to add.
I am using braille very much on my IPhone, because I am a braille user, I am
not using speech very much.
to me it is also a problem, that there are no ways you can go to the next line

Hi everyone, since I believe this is such a vital issue, and given that it is
