I used Around Me recently. It worked, but it sure didn't find much in the area
where I was. I don't recall if it has recently been updated. I used the whereto
app with much better luck.

Yes, Around Me works in New Zealand and Australia as well.
Another similar app to consider is Where To. Where To accesses bus stop
locations in cities that support it, such as Wellington, NZ. Also, Where To has
a nifty feature that gives the direction and distance to the POI you selected.

place. You can't get those with it at all. When you put an adress in
there the map will open with that point in the middle. '
