Hi Alan, occasionally, these upgrades will fail. It's hard to know specifically
why it did in this case.
But if you restore when in recovery mode, you'll have a clean iPHone, and you
can then restore from the iTunes backup. You could also do triple click home on
the start screen of the iPhone

I'm updating it while it's connected to my computer, charging, and iTunes was
