Hi,
What you need to do is go into settings, then notifications, then messages and
turn badges on. The badge is the number of messages that you have.

Hi,
I have managed this before, but it isn't working for me this time: I don't
delete my old emails, for my own reasons, so, if I don't keep up with them I
can end up with thousands of messages marked as "unread". Now, say I want to
mark them all as "read", I can hit edit, at the top of the
Hello again, everyone.
Upon further study, I now realize that the "unread counts" badge in
the Mail app actually does work with VoiceOver, but its messages are a
bit confusing. To illustrate, let's use the example of six unread
messages in the Inbox. If the badge is set to "

I recently updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 9.2.1 and re-installed an email

how many unread messages I have in my inbox. I went into Settings,

hi all,
I saw a recent tip on how to find the unmarked messages in mailboxes other than
the inbox, but now I can't find it. At the time of reading it, I didn't really
understand it either! I know it involved changing the view of the mailbox.
However, I can't even find how to view the mailbox, s

f you close it with 3
messages left unread, it will know it has 3 unread messages. If it updates that
badge later even though you haven't opened it, that's another matter, and I'd
go to the app itself and see if there are settings in there. Apps should honor
the iOS settings, but
enario, why does the
Gmail app tell me the number of unread messages in my Inbox when I flick to
its name on one of the pages of my home screen in preparation for opening
it? For example, if there are 3 unread messages, VoiceOver will say "Gmail

When I hear the Gmail App announced while flicking through my resident apps

is spoken even though I have Background App Refresh turned off in the

I don't know what you mean when you say all you get is unread. You'll have both
read and unread messages in your inh box and any other folder, although
typically you'll only have unread messages in your in box.
