Try Northern cardinal and see if that is what you’re looking for.

Debby,

Thanks for your review of this one. I will give it a try.

The Bird Song ID app I have tried also lowers the volume as soon as you tap on
the tab for recording bird songs, so yes, it would seem it may have something
to do with the microphone. Headphones do work fine with this.

Hi,

In case anyone is interested, I did buy the ChirpOmAtic app. It is generally
accessible with a couple of caveats. I did not try recording any birds because
it is a hot muggy day around here.

Here are a couple of issues. Here is the biggest one. When you start the app
Voiceover does not come out of the speaker. It is as though you are on a phone
call. If you press the home button and come out of the app and go back in then
voiceover comes out of the speaker. (I did not try with headphones to see what
would happen.) I am thinking that this happens because the app wants to use the
microphone, and so it puts any sound on the phone to the ear piece. This is
fixable, but strange!

Most of the controls are fine, but some of them are labeled with words with no
spaces. For instance on the first page there is a control that is labeled
“taptorecord.”

The app does have a reference section where you can hear various birds. This
section has a letter index and a search that is accessible and works. On the
page where you hear the birds songs/calls there is a description of the sound
just as there is in the “Chirp! Bird Song & calls USA” app. However, if you
want to read the description of the song/call, you have to hunt a bit toward
the bottom right of the screen.

Take care!

I can relate to not wanting to go out in the mugginess. The couple times I

Hi,

In case anyone is interested, I did buy the ChirpOmAtic app. It is generally

it is a hot muggy day around here.

Here are a couple of issues. Here is the biggest one. When you start the app

Take care!

I wonder about these apps when you have multiple birds singing at the same time.
I’m not sure any of them could be all that accurate.

It’s too bad they don’t have a trial period.
Like you Bill, I would not buy an app without knowing it worked with VoiceOver
at the very least.

I haven't used the Chirpomatic app in a year. I tried using the app on an
iPhone 7. The recordings were very low in their volume, unless the bird was
very close, like in a tree just above my head. I hope this has been fixed.

Debby,

Thanks for your review of this one. I will give it a try.

The Bird Song ID app I have tried also lowers the volume as soon as you tap on
the tab for recording bird songs, so yes, it would seem it may have something
to do with the microphone. Headphones do work fine with this.

RE: Accessible and Accurate Bird Song Identification App

2020-07-19 Thread Debby
Hi,

It looks as though the ChirpOmAtic and the one I suggested “Chirp USA” are from
the same developer. By the way, I just looked in the app store, and the one I
recommended is listed as “chirp! Bird songs & calls USA.” I looked up what I
paid, and it was $3.95 in December, 2016. Because it is on my phone, I can’t
tell if the price has changed.

I think I am going to get the “CirPOMAtic” and try it out. Although birds
aren’t really singing as much this time of year in my suburban environment. It
will be interesting to see how it handles multiple birds.

Take care!

I wonder about these apps when you have multiple birds singing at the same time.

I’m not sure any of them could be all that accurate.

It’s too bad they don’t have a trial period.

Like you Bill, I would not buy an app without knowing it worked with VoiceOver
at the very least.

I am likewise interested in an app that can identify birds by their calls with
a reasonable degree of accuracy. I live in northern Wisconsin and as I sit
outside listening to the cacauphony of bird calls surrounding me I’d like to
know which species are so garciously treating me to Nature’s symphony.

I went to the web site listed by Richard and found an app named ChirpOMatic but
wonder if it is accessible. It costs $3.95 and I am sufficiently cheap that I
do not want to throw away that amount.

Can anybody tell me if ChirpOMatic is accessible to a totally blind person?

Hi Pam,

First thanks to James for taking the plunge in answering your email. Those 26
instances of your email scared me a bit.

Anyway, the bird song identification app I use is "Chirp USA." It has a ton of
birds and includes bird songs as well as calls. Also, there are good
descriptions of the songs/call and links to other information about the bird
for the Cornell ornithology site and Wikipedia.

Take care!

2020-07-18 Thread Richard Turner
If you are wanting an app that will tell you what the bird is from hearing the
song, here is a review that you may find helpful.

If you want one to look up birds and hear what their song is like plus other
information, check out the free Audubon app.

Take care!

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has found a good app for identifying birds by their

mostly accessible does not seem to be very accurate as it will identify the
same song as belonging to different birds at different times.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Accessible and Accurate Bird Song Identification App

2020-07-18 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND
Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has found a good app for identifying birds by their
song? I have tried some that are not very accessible. The one I did find
mostly accessible does not seem to be very accurate as it will identify the
same song as belonging to different birds at different times.

The one I did find
mostly accessible does not seem to be very accurate as it will identify the
same song as belonging to different birds at different times.

Thanks for any suggestions.
Pam
