Although I can appreciate your suggestion, I often have VNC running
watching and waiting for something to happen on the remote screen to let me
know that a task has completed. During this time, there is typically no
mouse or keyboard activity. With your suggestion, I would never find out
that a
Here in Canada, many high-speed service providers are
putting a monthly quota on the number of bits you can
download before they charge you extra. They refer to
the quota as "bandwidth" (bits per month).
People who are likely to use VNC and its variants are
often not the same people who download

My access problem is resolved - Many thanks to William Hooper
In summary, the correct solution is to restrict the Xvnc -inetd access using
the tcpd wrapper program in the /etc/inetd.conf with correctly configured
hosts.allow and hosts.deny files. The -localhost option doesn't control
this when us
Hello,
It's looking for the `xauth` program. My Debian tells me xauth is part
of the xbase-clients package there must be some similar package for
slackware. install that package, then try again.

Hi all!
I've RTFM'd...believe me, I've been reading posts for 2 days now on the
xauth issue.
The trouble is (AFAIK) no one has actually answered the question in
layman's terms:
"I try to start vncserver and get the error message;
vncserver: couldn't find "xauth" on your PATH."
Now I read through

By default, all WinVNC servers will disconnect any existing connections when
an incoming, non-shared connection is authenticated. This behaviour is
undesirable when the server machine is being used as a shared workstation by
several users or
A question for the experts
I have successfully set up the ssh tunnel to my Xvnc server using plink as
follows:
C:\Program Files\putty\plink.exe -ssh2 -C xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -L
5901:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5901
Xvnc is configured to reply in inetd mode using this inetd.conf entry:

Hallo!
Is it possible to allow 2 people to be connected to
the same pc at the same time?
If you read the documentation you would know that
this is possible by using the -shared option.
For Windows Viewer:

Thank you for your response. I will check my router
manual to see if it is doing anything fishy.
One other thing I forgot to mention is that when I go

Pardon me as I'm sure this has come up numerous times, but I'm a newbie
here. Is it possible to allow 2 people to be connected to the same pc at the
same time?

I used to run Redhat 7.2 and VNC Server ran beautifully on it. I had no issues

I have been having problems using Xvnc and the entry in the /var/log/messages
is not helping at all. I was wondering if there is a way to have Xvnc give me
some useful information about the error.

Chris,
No, I haven't patched it. The changes in the Java code are small (about 4
lines - the source is in the jar) so it should be easy. I just haven't
had a chance. I'll try and get to it if there's enough interest.
