In VNC, I get the following error:

I've tried running it with -cc 3 -depth 8 but it still doesn't work,

Hi,
Is there a way to stop a users' VNC connection if a particular
application is exited? We'd like to have users access Emacs on a VNC
server. If the user exits Emacs, the connection itself would be
terminated.
Can that be done?
TIA,

Windows 98SE. I can access any of these systems from any of the others with
no problem. I can't however, figure out how to access them over the
internet. All 3 of these systems are connected via a dsl/cable router

Try restarting your VNC server, but with "-depth 24" on the command line
(e.g. "vncserver -depth 24").

Just in case . have you noticed that I've written some words in between
your message?
The native client, vncviewer.exe, is a single executable file. You could put
it on the Desktop or anywhere. No installation is needed. Does it suit you?

I could probably get away with the client but would prefer the Java
Client as it would mean I would not have to install anything on my box.
I understand that it is possible to pass parameters to a java program

Do you need to use the mouse with Emacs? If so, then you've probably got it
as good as it's going to get.
If not, then you're just running terminal-based applications and VNC (a

I use a full screen Emacs without borders/title on VNC using twm for the
window manager.
The limitations of LockSetting are described in the VNC Server
documentation.

We've rolled out VNC to our servers and workstations, all configured to lock
the console when the VNC session is closed. Works fine on the Windows 2000
servers and PCs but not on the NT 4 servers. They don't lock.
Is this a know problem or a configuration issue?
Thanks, Rob.

Is Java client your only choice and you don't want to use native client no

In Unix/Linux, IIRC, if an X-app is launched as a console command, it's
possible to press Ctrl+something (Ctrl+Z ?) to pause it and "push" it to background
tasks. And later on, with its job number, (using ps to get the list of PID), you
could pick it up again.

You've mixed up "default properties" and "user properties":
"default" is applied to out-of-session (and in-session if "user" isn't defined
??) Also make sure VNC server is really in service mode.

I've got RealVNC version 3.3.7 running as a service on about 40 workstations.
When I originally installed the service as Administrator on the workstations, I chose
a simple password. I've since changed the password when I was logged in as both
Aministrator and as the user.

Strange. I've not had that problem. I've managed to get several VNC servers made
accessible on the LAN for remote administration from the LAN or remote location
without any problems, and it's all nice and secure.
