RE: connecting to a VNC server behind a firewall (on my home LAN)

2004-10-25 Thread Asher, Scott
1) Find out your PC's (the one you want to VNC into) MAC address. 2) Login to your router. 3) Configure your router to always give the same internal ip (192.168.x.y) to the PC. 4) Configure your router to forward traffic into port 12345 (whatever number you choose) to the IP you configured in (3).

Hi folks, I run a home office, 3 pcs with static LAN addresses (192.168.0.2 ..3...4) connected to internet and each other via a Netgear router. I have installed a VNC server (as a service) on the main machine, the "file server", at 192.168.0.2 (static). Netgear router of course has a firewall.

I read your initial description more carefully this time. Your linksys router is reporting that its WAN IP is 10.10.5.2. That IP address is a non routing IP address. It sounds like your Linksys Network Everywhere Hub is connected to another router on another LAN. When you use IPChicken the

Are you able to VNC from one machine on the LAN to another using the LAN IP? That would tell you that the server on the machine is working okay. If that doesn't work then you need to solve that problem first. Are the machines running XP service pack 2? If so, SP2 installed a firewall and yo

I dont believe there is anything wrong with SSL, its just that ssh can provide at least an equal level of security, and has been used to tunnel VNC by a lot of people. I was recommending it as you will find much more documentation on using VNC with SSH, than with SSL. --Angelo On Sun, 24 Oct 200
