I run VNC viewer and connect to my server.
I run a server-side web browser that connects to a radio station.
The sound from the station is audible through the server's speakers.
Is there some way to make the sound available through the viewer's speakers?
I'm using VNC 4.0 on Windows 2000 Pro.
You will end up with the same problems. It follows the same logic if
you run a web server on your machine could i get to it from the

intentionally breaking through their firewall without their approval, you

them.
I just installed VNC 4.0 for Win32.

no bridges, routers etc.
The viewer happily connects and I can see the floortop's desktop, Start bar

Hello,
I hope you can help, as google et. al have proved unable to!
I am running VNC4.0 on Solaris 8 (2/04), via inetd. My inetd.conf line
is thus:
vnc-1152x864x24 stream tcp nowait root /space/tools/bin/Xvnc Xvnc
-inetd -query localhost -once -geometry 1152x864 -depth 24
-SecurityTypes=None -d
Check your XP firewall settings.

Paul,
I think that's a different issue - if I remember correctly, they use
alpha-blended windows, which VNC 3.3 won't display but VNC 4.0 will (by
default).

Wez,
Thanks for that information as well. I always wondered why programs like
Konfabulator or ObjectDock would not show up in a VNC session, however this
explains it.
I await the release of VNC 4.1.

Paul,
With regards to the laggy updates, VNC 3.3 uses a slightly dodgy (read
"breaks lots of OLE-based programs) deferred hooking method, to ensure that
hooks are dealt with by VNC only after they have been dealt with by the
application. VNC 4.0 didn't use this scheme, because it broke so many

Wez,
Thanks for the quick replies and information. I also noticed in 4.0 free
edition it lags with updates sometimes, where as 3.3.x does not.
I look forward to 4.1 free, and appreciate that your team is still working
on this project.

Paul,
This sounds like a(n annoying) behaviour of VNC 4.0, which VNC Free Edition
4.1 won't exhibit.
There's no reason why bugs in VNC 4.0 would necessarily have existed in VNC
3.3, or vice-versa - there is no common code between the two.
Cheers,

Wez,
Yes, it's VNC Viewer 4.0. It does not remember window location on close for
some reason; it always defaults to the upper left of the screen. I did not
have this issue with VNC Viewer 3.x... Any ideas?
Thanks

Try uninstalling any VNC distribution, then delete any VNC key in the

Is there a way to customize the installation of VNC through the

Ie. When you choose to install VNC through the deployment tool it just
does a standard deployment. You don't have the ability to choose not to

Jeffrey,
If you are seeing a sort of hall-of-mirrors effect then either the server
you are connecting to has a viewer running on its desktop that is connected
back to your viewer machine, or you are mistakenly connecting to your local
machine.

You'll only see this effect if you are connecting from a machine to itself,
in which case that's exactly the correct behaviour.

Brian,
Make sure you don't have another VNC Server (possibly a VNC 3.3 server?)
running - the two will conflict over who gets to use the VNC network port.
