Stewart,
Others have created a program similar to what you are intending. Check out

It is based on the ultravnc variant and works great, I have 2 copies that we
use for remote support. I wish RealVNC would come out with something like
this and perhaps have an option to make
There used to be a commandline option "-restricted" for vncviewer. I don't
think it exists in VNC4. I suggest using the free program "ResourceHacker"
to modify the vncviewer.exe file. You can remove whatever menu items you
want to remove and re-save the .exe file.

I strongly suggest you contact RealVNC and look at the Enterprise version.
It has a lot of features that you would be interested in, including
authentication with MS domain security, encryption, etc.
Email me separately if you have any questions.
Cheers,
Shaun

I haven't been able to find the answer to this one. Where should the
vncviewer.zip or .jar files be placed and what is the syntax for invoking
it? Is there a big difference if using MS Java instead of SUN Java?
Also, is it possible to launch it in "listen mode"?
Cheers,
Shaun
The Enterprise version of RealVNC has very nice encryption incorporated.
RSA and AES, if I remember correctly.
Email inquiries to RealVNC directly or perhaps Wez will be kind enough to
enlighten us here.
Cheers,
Shaun

Thanks, Wez!
FYI:
The new Enterprise version of RealVNC takes this to the next level: you can
configure which people can connect with or without requiring user
interaction. Very cool indeed. Wez and friends did a great job on this
feature.

I am debating how to set up the restrictions and exceptions in the upcoming
XP sp2 firewall. Thus far I have not been able to make it work properly
with rc2 build 2149. Has anyone else tried it out?

I agree wholeheartedly. This is an idea I have been kicking around for a
while, I am glad someone finally voiced it.
I definitely would contribute a few bucks to this effort. It would need to
be cross-platform, which I believe can be done by starting with the current
version of RealVNC4. The ba
To get VNC to start prior to anyone logging in on a win9x machine, put the
string to start winvnc.exe in this registry key:
Hklm\software\microsoft\windows\current version\runservices
This is the same place where antivirus and other services start from.
