Is the work computer behind a firewall or PAT router? If this is so
then you need to have your firewall group) set up a port forward and
firewall rules to allow you access.
If you need to go beyond that you will need to do a little more work
to get this going, which will include installing

It sounds like there is definitely something in there blocking your access.
I'd double-check that the windows firewall is entirely disabled, first off.
