MacBook Pro speakers playing up

I have a 17² MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo (running 10.4.11), and something seems to be have gone wrong with the speakers. There¹s kind of a crackle in any sound that it makes. About the best I can do in terms of describing it is that it sounds a little like when a speaker cone has crack or split in it. B
