Hi again Clive, I forgot about using ColorSync Utility. If Preview does not reduce the PDF enough try ColorSync Utility. I remember using it a long time ago and it did significantly reduce the size of a PDF file. "ColorSync Utility.app" From finder select the "Go" menu, and select Utilities. I

Hi Clive, Just adding to Carlo's comments. Open the PDF in Preview and then save it (as a PDF) again; the resulting file will usually be significantly smaller than the original with no difference in quality. Preview Save dialog includes, in the Quartz Filter pop-up menu, a Reduce File Size op

For those still wondering about the new MacBook Pro Retina Display, this is quite a good article written a few days ago. Goes into a lot of detail, all 18 pages of it. But well worth the read I feel if you're not sure to go with the MBP-RD or the "normal" 15" MacBookPro.
