Yes Contacts/Address Book data needed to be upgraded / migrated after El
Capitan installation.
Sounds like some of the upgrade El Capitan 'Post-installation tasks' were not
performed correctly.
Unbelievable that people still do not do all the 'Preparation' & BACKUP -
'bootable backups' as well

Quick view indicates a addressBook file ( there is an option showing - add to

There was no backup nor syncing to iCloud before hand.
