The only time I had real problems was when using OS X 2.4. Updating to
2.5 has meant I now have stable dialup with iinet again.
I knew it wasn't iinet because I have a student account which I could

More on my little iinet debacle for those considering the leap:
iinet have now agreed NOT to debit my credit card for another 2 weeks until
such time as my account is up and running (although I had to do my best
"uptight pommie who's not taking any s**t" in order to make this happen...
meanwhile
try a dial up connection you have to ring 4 times each time you want to go
online before you get a connection no matter what time of day or night

I find I am repeatedly disconnected - invariably immeditely if I just happen to
be connected at anything higher than 47000 bps,
Like you I have recommended iinet in the past but no longer do - I am also
starting to look elsewhere
