Hi Michael, On the other hand iMacs so far have retained the square
shape, and as you said, it would give you an excuse to buy one.
The cycle for new models has really stretched lately, so I am
wondering if the iMac is due for a design change again, besides
probably having the new Intel chip.
Your G3 Powerbook has a screen resolution of 1024x768 pixels (768 is

The new Macbook (though physically smaller screen 13" widescreen

I just re-read this and thought I'd better be a bit clearer - Dell

Michael, I find that wide-screen is so much better for working with
documents than the old "square" 4:3 aspect ratio. I feel so cramped
on the old style now. The reason is you can then far more easily
have 2 documents side by side when comparing or copying and pasting

The 17" screen will have a much higher resolution than your PowerBook
so this may be some compensation for the lost real estate. Text will

My G3 PowerBook 400 is over 7 years old. It works very well, but I'm going
to have to replace it sooner or later. I'd prefer to buy another Apple, but
all I can find have letter box shaped screens. They're fine for watching
DVDs but not for working on documents, which is what I do, day in, day out.
