Hi Michael, On the other hand iMacs so far have retained the square shape, and as you said, it would give you an excuse to buy one. The cycle for new models has really stretched lately, so I am wondering if the iMac is due for a design change again, besides probably having the new Intel chip.

Your G3 Powerbook has a screen resolution of 1024x768 pixels (768 is the vertical size/resolution) The new Macbook (though physically smaller screen 13" widescreen ratio 16:10 vs 14" 4:3 ratio) is actually 1280x800 pixels, so you actually have more vertical resolution there than you have on y

Michael, I find that wide-screen is so much better for working with documents than the old "square" 4:3 aspect ratio. I feel so cramped on the old style now. The reason is you can then far more easily have 2 documents side by side when comparing or copying and pasting etc. If you want as

My G3 PowerBook 400 is over 7 years old. It works very well, but I'm going to have to replace it sooner or later. I'd prefer to buy another Apple, but all I can find have letter box shaped screens. They're fine for watching DVDs but not for working on documents, which is what I do, day in, day out.
