Thanks Ronni.
The take home message as I understand it is stay away from Pages unless
everyone with whom or to whom you send a document prepared by using Pages has
had and has kept on their computer every version if Pages known to mankind.

Hi Michael,
Not at all...
You only send your Pages document as a Pages document (.pages) to a colleague
or someone you are collaborating with on a project (who is going to perhaps
make changes or add to the document).
You share your Pages documents across different platforms by exporting them

try there and by
Tim,
Tried the update - it is only suitable for 10.9.
Reason. I am taking over a a job where the previous person used Pages, and he

Hoping Pages is backward compatible.
Backwards compatibility means that a newer version can open documents created
with older versions, not the other way around.
Pages 5 is for Mavericks. Pages 5 doesn’t have the same set of features as
Pages 4. It also has a different file format.
Thanks Ronni,
My colleague is very sick so I'll have to wait and see what he uses before I
make a move. Acrobat doesn't say more than Pages in the Properties section
of the files.
