Are you sure you have “Mail Messages” selected in Spotlight Preferences -
'Search Results’?
Also, you don’t have a “Previous System Folder” on your Computer which has an
older Mail Application in it?

I probably should have warned you, that Spotlight 'Re-Indexing’
your Hard Drive, depending on how many and what kind of files you
have it can take upwards of an hour or two to re-index.
Let it complete the re-indexing before you test it.

Thank you James. I may have been trigger happy with my first request, as the
DVD contained over 5500 pages of documents and Spotlight might not have
indexed them when I made the first couple of attempts to search the DVd.
I was also confused by the fact that the Spotlight window referred to the
basically it canbut you may have to add the dvd volume to the
searchable items...
i actually just tested it osx.4.11:
put the dvd in, start spotlight after the volume logo is on the
desktop, then type in the search term...that's it

After restarting my computer and repairing permissions, Spotlight now lists
items on the DVD.

Dropbox folder. Both running latest version of Leopard.
Via Dropbox, each of the Macs can see particular folders if that

a matter of negotiation on a case-by-case basis. Other than that,
perhaps non-HFS+ volumes are not supported for Spotlight indexing?
I can't find any option or preference that allows me to index an
external Win2K File server I often access ... would someone explain
it to me? (on /off list, I don't mind).
