I ended up getting two copies Techtool Pro 5. They look identical.

So now have a bootable backup copy of my HD, plus a bootable copy of
TechTool Pro 5, both on the external USB drive, plus TechTool Pro 5
installed and running on the laptop.
All go.

So which link did you use for the Techtool download ?
There is a link supplied with the serial number ,
but a different link supplied at the foot for creating a bootable DVD
The DVD link is 758 Mb long will be about an hour and 30 for me.

Discussion on TT Pro 5 has gone very quiet after an initial disaster
report. My disk is 5.0.2 and is still in the envelope.

Hi Severin, I bit the bullet and installed.
I have, to be on the safe side, only scanned an external drive so
far. Volume fault identified and repaired.
Don't much like the interface though. Pretentious and clunky compared
to previous version.
