Interesting hypothesis, Ken, and I hope others will shed light on that
phrase. However, it's ironic how often "truth-telling" Andy stretches the
truth (though usually to protect those he loves). I watched "Aunt Bee's
Crowing Glory" (among other episodes) on tvland.com this morning. In that
episode,

Good question. Perhaps he expected it to smell like an old catcher's mitt.

In the color years, both the opening and closing themes were in E flat. The
opening theme was also shortened considerably, presumably so they could squeeze
in one more commercial. As far as an explanation goes ... I don't know.
Perhaps Mr. Hagen's aim was to make the closing theme sound more
HI gang!!
Don't tell Andy but I just saw Miss Crump on Bonanza, sweet on Adam Cartwright.
Must be a part of her Kansas past (TAGS episode 244). For that matter don't
let Mrs. Pendleton find out.

P.S. Tom Kessel, love your blog postings. I subscribed and get them by email.
Well, have you heard the media gushing over our president because he killed a

...that's an interesting observation you made. Putting in my two cents worth,
I would say that the phrase "to tell you the truth" or some variation of it was
probably used because it is a relatively common southern expression. I find
myself using it quite often. Ironically enough, it is of

would seem to indicate that they are empty frames. However, the othe

Maybe Opie was subconsciously thinking that the more sophisticated/expensive
the perfume, the more subtle the scent.

Wow, Loren really went the extra mile in figuring out the keys of the two
versions of the TAGS theme. I too had noticed that the intro and outro were
slightly different; if you watch TAGS on DVD and use the "play all" feature,
you'll hear the outro of one show right before the intro of the new show
